About National Goods
What is National Goods?
National Goods is an online department store for products made in the United States. We carry apparel, footwear, bags, kitchenware, home goods, furniture, and stationery from American makers, and we hold a portion of it in our own facility in Michigan.
We launched on 4 July 2026, America's 250th anniversary. We are an independent company, and we are not owned by any of the brands we carry.
Is everything you sell made in America?
Yes. Every product on this site is manufactured in the United States: most of it entirely, from domestic materials, and a smaller number from a mix of domestic and imported components. The product page tells you which, under Details.
Where a maker uses an imported material, it is because that material is no longer produced in this country at the standard the work requires. Where we know the town a thing was made in, we name the town.
Nothing we sell is manufactured, assembled, or finished outside the United States. That is the line, and holding it is the reason we turn down most of what we are offered.
What do you mean by "made in America"?
That the product was manufactured here. Not designed here and built elsewhere, not imported and finished here, not assembled abroad from American parts. Manufactured here.
Where a maker uses an imported material because no domestic mill or supplier still makes it to their standard, we say so on the product page rather than rounding up. That is a smaller share of what we carry than most people expect, and we would rather you know which is which than take our word for the whole catalog.
How do you decide what to carry?
We look at where and how a thing is made, what it is made of, and whether it will still be worth owning in ten years. We buy from makers who have been doing one thing for a long time, and we are more interested in a company that has refused to change its process than one that has just redesigned it.
We turn down more than we accept.
Do you make anything yourselves?
Some, and more soon.
Products marked NG Exclusive are made for National Goods, either to our specification or in collaboration with the maker. Everything else is the maker's own product, carried as they make it.
We are also building our own line, manufactured in the United States, beginning with apparel. It will be held to the same standard as everything else on this site, which is the only reason it is worth doing.
Where are you based?
Michigan. Our own inventory ships from our facility outside Detroit.
Orders and payment
Do I need an account to order?
No. You can check out as a guest. An account saves your addresses and keeps your order history in one place, which is useful if you order from us more than once.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards, plus Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
Can I change or cancel my order after I place it?
If it has been less than two hours, write to support@nationalgoods.com with your order number and we can almost always stop it.
After that, the order has usually gone to the maker and we cannot pull it back. If it has already shipped, the return process below applies.
Do you run sales?
Rarely. We price things at what they cost to make well, and we do not mark them up in order to mark them down. You will see the occasional seasonal reduction. You will not see a permanent sale section.
Can I use more than one discount code?
One per order. If you are holding a code you cannot use because another is already applied, write to us and we will sort it out.
Shipping and delivery
How long will my order take?
It depends on where the item comes from, and each product page carries its own estimate.
- Held in our Michigan facility. We prepare your order in 1 to 2 business days, then standard shipping takes 3 to 5. Faster options are available at checkout.
- Shipped by the maker. Prepared on that maker's schedule, generally 1 to 5 business days, then shipped directly to you.
- Made to order. Built after you order, which takes 1 to 5 weeks depending on the maker. The product page says so before you buy.
- Freight, including furniture. 2 to 8 weeks from order to delivery. Pieces held in stock are at the short end, pieces built for you at the long end.
All of these are estimates. We do not control the carrier.
Why did my order arrive in more than one box?
Because it came from more than one place. We hold some of what we sell in Michigan, and the rest ships directly from the workshop that made it. An order containing both will arrive in separate shipments, each with its own tracking.
Was I charged shipping twice?
No. You are charged once, at checkout, no matter how many shipments your order becomes.
How much does shipping cost?
Rates are calculated at checkout based on what is in your order, where each item ships from, and your address. You will see the exact cost before you pay.
Freight items are quoted separately, per piece.
How do I track my order?
You will get a confirmation email when you order, and a tracking notification when each shipment leaves. If your order ships from more than one place, you will get a separate notification for each.
How does furniture delivery work?
Larger pieces ship by freight rather than parcel. The carrier will contact you to schedule a four-hour appointment window. Delivery is to your door or your building's entrance. Unpacking, assembly, and packaging removal are not included.
Where do you ship?
Throughout the United States, including Alaska, Hawaii, and United States territories.
We are not shipping internationally yet. If you are outside the country and there is something you want, write to us and we will tell you honestly whether we can get it to you.
Returns and exchanges
What is your return policy?
Thirty days from the day your order arrives. The item needs to be unworn, unused, in its original packaging with tags attached, and you need proof of purchase.
Some things we cannot take back: personalised or custom-made items, personal care goods, perishables, and hazardous materials. Gift cards and sale items are final.
How do I start a return?
Write to support@nationalgoods.com with your order number and what you want to send back. We will send you a return label and instructions. Please do not ship anything back before you hear from us, as unannounced returns cannot be accepted.
Who pays for return shipping?
If an item is defective, damaged, or not what you ordered, we cover it.
If you are returning something because you changed your mind, we will still send you a prepaid label, and the cost of that label is deducted from your refund. You will be told the amount before you send anything back.
How do I exchange something?
Return the original for a refund and place a new order. It is faster than a formal exchange, because much of what we carry ships from the maker and a held exchange can take weeks.
Something arrived damaged, or it is the wrong item.
Write to support@nationalgoods.com with your order number and a photograph. We will resolve it with the maker and the carrier, and you will not be out of pocket. Please inspect your order when it arrives.
When will I see my refund?
Within 10 business days of approval, back to the original payment method. If your order came from more than one maker, refunds may post separately.
Products, sizing and care
How do I find the right size?
Sizing lives on the product page, because it varies by maker. Where a maker's fit runs long or short, we say so in the product notes. If you are between sizes and cannot decide, write to us. We have most of it here and can tell you what it actually does.
Something I want is sold out. When will it be back?
Most of it comes back.
Much of what we carry is made in small runs by people who produce to a schedule rather than to demand, so a gap usually means the next run is not finished, not that we have dropped the product.
Add your email on the product page and we will write to you the day it returns. If you would rather know now, ask us and we will find out from the maker.
Do your products come with a warranty?
Warranties are the maker's, and they vary. Where a maker offers one, it is on the product page. Separately from any warranty, if something we sold you fails in a way it should not have, tell us. We would rather hear about it.
How should I care for what I buy?
Care instructions are on the product page under Care. Nearly everything we carry can be repaired or resoled or re-seasoned rather than replaced, and where that is true the maker will usually do it for you.
Makers and partnerships
I make something in the United States. How do I get carried?
Write to partners@nationalgoods.com with a link to your line and where it is manufactured. We read everything, and we reply to the ones we are serious about.
Can I order for my business, or in quantity?
Yes. Write to partners@nationalgoods.com and tell us what you have in mind.
How do I contact you?
